- Measure the replaceable poster, then the metal surface available for its frame. An A4 poster measures 21 × 29.7 cm. Keep dates and headings clear of areas the frame edges will cover.
- Magnets versus magnetic frames
- A one-piece printed magnet carries a fixed message. A magnetic frame allows posters or notices to be replaced in the same area.
- Surface attachment check
- Magnetic adhesion depends on the surface. Aluminium and some stainless-steel grades are unsuitable, so test the actual cabinet or board.

- Show surface flatness, paint and projections in a photograph. Check full-area contact on the actual cabinet, board or shelf.
- Poster and cutting
- For frames, specify poster size and replacement direction. For one-piece magnets, draw the outline separately and keep text inside the edges.
