Effects and Varnish Printing
Foil Printing
We transfer foil onto logos, text or patterns to create a reflective finish. Foil colour and finish are chosen for the substrate and aligned with colour printing. Embossing is planned separately if required.
Applications
- Box and cover logos
- Invitation names
- Card frames
- Minimum order quantity
- 500 pieces
- Foil design dimensions
- For foil borders, specify line thickness as well as outer dimensions. On shaped covers, check clearance from cuts and creases at actual size. Examine fine-text counters on a foil sample.
- Foil and surface
- Choose foil colour and finish with the substrate. Include any lamination when assessing appearance and process compatibility.
- Separate application area
- Define foil areas separately from colour printing. Shared coordinates and clear outlines support registration within the same design.
- Do foil and metallic ink produce the same appearance?
- Foil printing transfers a separate foil layer onto the surface; with metallic effect printing, paint or ink creates the reflection. Sheen and fine-detail appearance differ, so choose the result using samples on the same substrate.
Before printing
- Foil and raised details
- Foil adds a reflective surface highlight. Raised logos need a separately planned embossing process, with finish and height assessed on a physical sample.
- Fine gap check
- Very fine lines, narrow gaps and rough substrates can affect foil transfer. Review artwork at actual size and confirm printable details before production.
